If you’re relocating away from home, your budget should include living expenses, transport charges, tuition, study materials, and other expenses.
That is why it is critical to investigate all financing and scholarship alternatives to determine whether your selected university provides financial aid. Some colleges cover tuition, while others offer one-time stipends or a combination of the two. For many students, financial aid is a deciding factor when selecting an institution to apply to.
Social life and free time
When you’re not studying, you’ll likely want to unwind, socialize, or pursue a hobby.
Many institutions provide opportunities to join student societies or clubs through their student union or student services. These societies and clubs work similarly to tiny university-based organizations, with membership fees ranging from low to none. They can be sports, arts, religious, social, or hobby-related. At my university, there is even a Harry Potter society open to all fans!
Another item to consider is whether your school includes sporting facilities, such as a gym or a swimming pool, where you can exercise your mind and body at a lower cost than off-campus alternatives.
And, of course, at the end of the day, you’ll want to eat or drink with your buddies, so an on-campus tavern or café is essential. Take a virtual tour of the campus and discover the possibilities.
All of these characteristics are rarely considered in university rankings. Rankings are still highly important for assessing a university’s research prospects and successes, number of international students, size, and overall student population, and so on.
However, for details such as those discussed above, you will most likely need to visit each university’s website to see what they offer and what current students and alumni have to say.
